2007 - Pessegueiro do Vouga

In order to achieve the goals of the present work a pilot study was carried out in 2007 Pessegueiro do Vouga (Figure 1).

This area is located in the Sever do Vouga municipality of Aveiro district, north-central of Portugal.

Since the number of fires were very limited in 2007 this area was selected for studying slope erosion due the advantages of being close to the Univ. Aveiro but also because its geology, soils and prevailing land cover (i.e. eucalypt plantations) are comparable to those of the study areas of the preceding EROSFIRE project.

2008 - Colmeal

Figure 2 - Overview picture of Colmeal study area.

Colmeal is located in Serra de Lousã, in central of Portugal. The Colmeal-fire occurred late august and consumed a total area of about 70 ha (Figure 2). Three catchments were affected by the fire and work is focusing on the central, almost entirely burnt one of roughly 20 ha.
